SHUTE has developed and patented a Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) sensor system, that can monitor strain, humidity, temperature and vibrations in points along a hair thin fiber. SHUTEs technology is based on a microstructured POF inscribed with Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs). FBGs are a well-known technology for point sensing, and we have developed longer (up to 100mm) Chirped FBGs for monitoring shockwaves and explosionfronts. It has successfully been bought & tested by top-tier US and EU customers.

Due to the fiber's flexibility and stretchability it can easily be embedded in hard and soft materials. All SHUTE polymer optical fibers have since 2020 been produced in-house; therefore, we can offer customized polymer fibers in terms of length, diameter, claddings, core structures, geometry, polymers, etc. We also offer fibers with up to 10 FBG sensing points and if you are not familiar with optical fibers, we produce complete sensing systems, including a user-friendly interface.
