Amperometric zirconia oxygen sensors are extensively employed in many different industrial sectors like power plants, chemical plants, and food processing etc., where precise oxygen measurement is essentially needed. With over 30 years of experience, Angst+Pfister Sensors and Power (formerly Pewatron) has developed a diverse range of over 150 distinct OEM - Amperometric oxygen gas sensor modules, encompassing tailored solutions and personalized products to cater to specific customer needs.
This newsletter presents highlights from our product portfolio, focusing on the amperometric zirconia oxygen gas sensor module series.
Versatility and Robustness with the FCX-MC series
To start with, FCX-MC series is presented as the most versatile and robust oxygen sensor module. FCX-MC series offer a broad range of diverse features which can be utilized for many different application areas. Equipped with a 12-bit AD converter, the FCX MC modules efficiently condition and linearize raw signals from (the analog) FCX-U sensors. Output signal protocols include 4-20 mA/0-10 V analog and RS232/RS485 serial digital outputs along with I2C variants. Precise signal calibration and adjustment are facilitated by digital potentiometers controlled via an external display box, ensuring accuracy in application. The FCX-U sensor can be integrated onto the board in a gas-tight flow housing for reliable forced flow measurements or alternativity can also be connected via cable. Various sensor heads with cables are available for different applications, spanning from stationary gas safety devices to high-temperature humidity measurement transmitters.
Compact Reliability: FCX-ML/MP Series
The FCX-ML/MP series offers compact modules that maintain output signal quality and precise heater voltage control. With an industrially standardized 4-20mA output signal, these series ensure reliability without compromising on size. Its compact design and favorable cost-to-performance ratio make them an optimal choice for various industrial applications.
Long-Term Reliability with the FCX-MLD Series
The FCX-MLD module series is designed for long-term reliability with minimal service and calibration needs. An example use case for FCX-MLD module series is fitness and/or server rooms where oxygen concentration levels need to be monitored. For instance, in fitness rooms, adjusting oxygen levels simulates high-altitude training, while in server rooms, it can mitigate fire risks due to overheated electronics. Additionally, the series suits CO2 incubators and food packaging application areas where precise oxygen control, particularly at higher concentrations around 95 vol.-% O2, is crucial. The FCX-MLD series prioritizes both size and safe handling, featuring a serial signal interface with commands ensuring secure operations such as sensor status monitoring, on/off control, reset, span and zero adjustments, among others.

Seamless Integration: the FCX-TR Transmitter Series
The FCX-TR transmitter series integrates FCX-U sensor and electronics into a stainless steel (1.4404) housing with a G½ threaded process adaptation, enabling direct mounting in applications such as tubes or chambers with internal signal conditioning. Outputting a 4 20 mA non-linearized signal, the transmitter has no cable length limit from a central process controller to the monitored process. Primarily designed for oxygen and nitrogen generators' process control, the FCX-TR series is also suitable for analysis devices and Metal 3D printing machines (additive manufacturing). Its threaded process adaptation facilitates easy integration, while optional forced flow operation is available. With a threaded opening on the hexagonal nut, an M5 process adapter can be mounted, allowing the transmitter to function as a bypass from the process gas line, ensuring fast response to changes in oxygen concentration.
