Due to its two-microphone technology the sound intensity probe measures the sound pressure levels as well as the sound pressure gradient which is needed to calculate the sound intensity.

The probe consists of one pair of measuring microphone capsules with matched phase response and frequency response.
Due to the 1/4” measuring microphone preamplifiers the sound field distortions (shadowing and diffractions) are reduced to a minimum. The distance between the two microphones is precisely defined by spacers.

The quality of conformance between the two measuring microphone capsules in terms of their transfer functions is measured in compliance with IEC 61043 and documented as minimum pressure-residual intensity index for probes.

Each pair of microphone capsules comes with a measuring protocol.
