MTG update - WME 980 serie digital with the new developed MV 240 USB
Feb 3, 2026
The combination of the weatherproof microphones of the WME 980 series with the new MV 240 USB allows for individual expansion of functionality and range of applications, especially when measuring community, traffic, or aircraft noise.
The housings of the WME 980 CN (community or traffic noise) and the WME 980 AM (aircraft noise/ Airportmonitoring) are made of stainless steel and are equipped with bird guards, windshields, and rain covers.
The housing contains easily replaceable silica gel desiccant bags. An easily replaceable TA 202 L drying adapter with a moisture indicator window is included with the measuring microphones.
A G 1.5" connection thread is used for mounting, to which a tripod adapter can also be screwed. The weatherproof microphone units can be calibrated with standard sound calibrators.
For remote calibration, they are equipped with a remotely switchable calibration generator that feeds in a 1 kHz calibration signal via an electrostatic attachment electrode. The device has switches for a cable driver and a microphone heater, which prevents possible condensation under extreme climatic conditions.
The weatherproof microphone units are suitable for Class 1 sound level meters according to IEC 61672.
The digital version consists of the 1/2“ measuring microphone capsule, the 1/2” measuring microphone preamplifier MV 240 USB with USB interface, the dry adapter TA 202, the rain/dust cover RS 98, and the windscreen with bird deflector.
WME 980 CN/AM digital with MV 240 USB at a glance:
• Sound incidence horizontal (CN) to microphone axis / vertical (AM) to microphone axis
• 20 Hz to 20 kHz
• 15 dBA to 149 dB
• Remote calibration with electrostatic actuator
• Windshield with bird deflector
• Stainless steel housing
• 1/2" MKS 221 microphone capsule
• Replaceable dry adapter with moisture indicator window
• USB (4-pin Lemo®)
• Microphone power supply: USB
• 32-bit data transfer
• Digital transmission of fixed calibrated sound pressure values
• Sampling frequency up to 192kHz supported,
• No measurable or audible USB artifacts, USB class compatible (USB 2/3)
• No additional hardware driver required
• Compatible with all common operating systems
• Independent of special firmware, use of common measurement software possible
• Internally generated capsule polarization voltage 200V
• Minimal inherent noise due to optimal adaptation of the measuring capsule to the AD converter
• Electrical voltage in the system is irrelevant for the user, as direct digital sound pressure transformation (DDST) is used
