Faraday-Ox® is the world’s smallest electrochemical gas sensor, combining breakthrough MEMS type manufacturing with FaradaIC’s proprietary MECS-Technology® to deliver high-performance gas sensing in an ultra-compact footprint. Through its innovative pulsed-operation mode, the sensor dramatically reduces power consumption while maintaining the sensitivity and stability required for continuous monitoring applications.

Unlike conventional electrochemical sensors, Faraday-Ox® is the first sensor platform based on FaradaIC’s proprietary MECS-Technology® (Micro Electrochemical System Technology), enabling electrochemical gas sensors to be manufactured using scalable MEMS processes for the first time. This technology platform can be applied to virtually any electrochemical sensing principle, opening the path toward a new generation of miniaturized, low-cost, and highly reproducible gas sensors for a wide range of analytes and applications.

The MEMS-based manufacturing approach enables significantly lower production costs, improved device consistency, and seamless integration into next-generation portable, wearable, and embedded sensing systems. In addition, the extremely small sensor geometry provides a major performance advantage: exceptionally fast diffusion dynamics result in response times below one second, enabling real-time detection of rapidly changing gas concentrations and advanced applications such as breath analysis and dynamic environmental monitoring.

This unprecedented speed opens entirely new application areas beyond traditional industrial gas monitoring. In particular, Faraday-Ox® enables advanced breath analysis applications, where sub-second response times are critical for capturing transient biomarkers in human respiration. The combination of ultra-low power consumption, compact size, fast response, and scalable manufacturing makes Faraday-Ox® ideally suited for mobile health, wearable electronics, indoor air quality monitoring, smart home systems, and battery-powered IoT devices.

By merging electrochemical sensing performance with semiconductor-style manufacturing, compact system integration, and a highly scalable fab-lite production approach, Faraday-Ox® represents a new generation of gas sensing technology designed for long-lifetime, low-maintenance, and energy-efficient sensing applications. Its extremely low power consumption enables operation over many years from a small lithium battery, even in demanding autonomous deployments. For example, applications such as Sealproof™, where only a limited number of measurements per day are required to verify package seal integrity, can achieve operational lifetimes of up to 10 years with a single compact battery and sensor system.
