Fretting corrosion test stand for monitoring damages in plug-in connectors
30.03.2023
The Fraunhofer EMFT scientists have developed a fretting corrosion test stand, which is able to deliver important insights for modelling damage mechanisms in commercial connectors. Degradation processes in connectors are a common cause for problems in the field, especially when failures lead to broken-down vehicles on the street. Particularly for future automatic driving functions, failsafe performance of function-critical RE components and reliable transmission of data are of essential importance. For safe automatic driving functionality it is important to be able to detect the initial stages of such failures as early as possible.
The friction tests carried out under various environmental conditions (for example humidity, temperature) have shown an intermittent increas in resistance as a result of progressive friction distance. Consequently the fretting corrosion test stand can deliver improved prognoses for damages in connectors.
