MEMS-Hydrogen Sensor
30.09.2025
In 2022, Materion filed a patent application for a new MEMS-based hydrogen sensor and has meanwhile brought it to market maturity. Under standard conditions, the sensor can be used for ambient monitoring in the lower explosive limit range or for monitoring process gases containing up to 100 vol% H2 in gas mixtures. It enables the selective measurement of hydrogen in gas mixtures and, in particular, exhibits no cross-sensitivity to natural gas and its constituents. Based on the advantages of Si technology, the sensor can be manufactured cost-effectively in large quantities. A processor-based smart version of the H2 MEMS sensor is currently being developed so that the sensor can also be used for industrial applications with varying temperatures, ambient pressures and humidity.
