NEWS from Gefell - MV 240 digital - New fields of application in weatherproof microphones, R&D, teaching and training
10.03.2024
The MV 240 digital is an innovative all-in-one development. Thanks to its versatility and impulses from the field, the range of uses and possible applications has been greatly expanded.
In terms of design and quality, it differs fundamentally from all standard analog-digital solutions on the market.
This opens up a wide range of applications that could not be realized with previous analogue or conventional analogue-digital solutions for cost or functional reasons.
Accuracy and simplified operation now allow existing applications to be optimized and new, efficient fields of application (e.g. industry, environment, R&D, occupational health and safety through to the education and training sector).
Current examples are the use in weatherproof microphone units WME 980 CN for environmentally relevant noise measurements or in the study and training sector as well as R&D.
In today's age of high environmental and health awareness, accurate noise measurement of different types of noise pollution, such as traffic noise, construction noise, railroad and industrial noise and other sources of noise emissions, is crucial.
The combination with the MV 240 digital makes it possible to extend both the functionality and the efficiency of permanent outdoor noise monitoring as well as stationary or mobile monitoring of environmental noise.
In addition to noise measurements, key areas of application include pass-by test benches for outdoor noise measurements in the automotive sector, which are important for the issuing of official vehicle certifications, vehicle development and quality assurance in production.
There is also growing interest in the study and training sector as well as in R&D.
Access to high-quality measuring equipment and methods is essential for a well-founded and broadly based university education for future engineers, masters, bachelors, technicians and R&D specialists.
With the digital measuring microphone, every student, researcher and developer has a cost-effective high-end, research- and industry-compatible measuring device at their disposal, which can be connected to standard computer technology with Windows®- or Linux®-based operating systems, such as a digital sound interface, without any further technical requirements.
It is also possible to program, measure and evaluate measurements in systems such as Phyton®, C++®, MATLAB® or Labview® while integrating the digital measuring microphone.
This provides a basis for digital laboratory measurement both in the home and in the laboratory.
MV 240 digital - outstanding features
The outstanding features include, for example
- Digital measuring microphone with 32-bit data transmission
- Digital transmission of fixed calibrated sound pressure values
- Full dynamics of a newly developed low noise 1/2" capsule
- With ¼" capsule use - maximum sound pressure level of 160 dB
- Max. dynamic range of the 32 bit range is 186 dB
- User-independent of special company software, can be used with common measurement software
- Compatible with all common operating systems
Equipped with a new, specially developed high-end low noise capsule and new, integrated electronics matched to the capsules (including an integrated AD converter), the MV 240 considerably expands the range of potential users.
Existing disadvantages of previous AD solutions in terms of complex operation and time-consuming installation, possible sources of error due to complicated coordination of several electronic components and the resulting time and personnel costs have been overcome.
Advantages of the innovative MV 240 digital:
- Only one measuring range for the entire dynamic range, i.e. no range switching necessary,
- Direct digital sound pressure conversion (with exact sensor-ADU adaptation to exclude common sources of error),
- Sampling frequency up to 192kHz is supported,
- no measurable or audible USB artifacts, USB class-compatible (USB 2/3),
- no additional device driver required,
- internally generated capsule polarization voltage 200V,
- minimal self-noise due to optimum adaptation of the measurement microphone capsule to the AD converter,
The new MV 240 digital thus offers the possibility of solving existing problems with previous AD solutions with just one device. It replaces two analog measurement microphones, two analog front-end channels and part of the digital signal processing, thus saving costs. In addition, no separate power supply unit is required, as is usually the case with analog measurement microphones if their full dynamic range is to be used.
Another significant advantage is a test generator integrated into the microphone, which enables both the complete transmission and evaluation of a signal.
