Delta-R manufactures temperature sensors on behalf of sensor manufacturers and engine manufacturers for the growing electromobility market. Speed, flexibility and reliability paired with the highest quality standard "Made in Germany" have convinced more and more customers during the pandemic.
Temperature sensors for electromobility are cable thermometers that are used to monitor the temperature of electric motors and batteries. These temperature sensors, also known as temperature probes, thermometers or coil head sensors, are temperature sensor elements with a cable extension and shrink tubing insulation.
Temperature sensors with shrink tubing insulation are usually based on a Pt100 or Pt1000 element that is extended in a 2-, 3- or 4-wire circuit and then insulated with high-voltage-resistant shrink tubing. Depending on the required temperature resistance, the sensors are insulated with high-voltage-resistant Kynar or PTFE shrink tubing. Depending on the dielectric strength, the sensors are insulated once or several times. The required insulation strength determines the insulation length as well as the type and position of the shrink tubing. Typically, the elements are extended with stranded wires ranging from AWG 20 to AWG28. The operating temperature range of cable sensors with shrink tube insulation is between -70°C and +260°C.
Temperature sensors for electromobility are manufactured using a wide variety of connection technologies. Delta-R prefers welding as a connection technique because it does not require any additives and is also suitable for small dimensions. However, brazing or crimping connections as mechanical connection technology are also common and possible.
