TGS 8410 MEMS Sensor for Methane from Figaro Engineering Inc.
20.02.2025

Low Power MEMS Methane gas sensor TGS8410 ideal for battery powered applications.
MEMS technology enables miniaturisation of the sensor, couple this with the fact that MOS(metal oxide semiconductor) materials have a large surface area to volume and the result is a sensor which is able to respond rapidly and accurately to very small changes in gas concentration using a fraction of the power compared to traditional sensors.
The sensing element of TGS8410 is comprised of a sensing chip and an integrated heater formed on a silicon substrate using MEMS technology. The metal-oxide semiconductor layer is applied to the sensing chip. Due to miniaturisation of the sensing chip, the TGS 8410 has an average heater power consumption of only 0.087mW, and is suitable for low-power equipment and battery-operated instruments. In the presence of detectable gas, sensor conductivity increases dependent on the gas concentration.
The TGS 8410 uses filter material in its housing to eliminate the influence of interferents such as alcohol, resulting in a highly selective response to methane gas. This feature makes the sensor ideal for residential gas leakage detectors which require durability and resistance to interferents.
